monte cox staffMonte joined the ministry staff in 2013 as the Preaching Minister. In that role he is responsible for coordinating all of the preaching for Sunday morning assemblies and preaching about 2/3 of the sermons.  He also enjoys meeting with the staff each week, contributing what he can as a part-time staff member.  He has served as a Shepherd at Downtown since 2002.  During the day, he teaches Bible at Harding University (since 1992), and serves as the Dean of the College of Bible and Ministry (since 2008).  He holds a B.A. degree in Bible from Harding, an M.A. in Missiology and Church Growth from Harding School of Theology, and a Ph.D. in Intercultural Studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Chicago.

Before coming to Harding, he and his wife, Beth, were missionaries in Kenya where they planted churches from 1982-1992.  They have three adult children and three grandchildren.

Monte loves following his beloved Atlanta Braves (he grew up in Georgia), making a pilgrimage each year with his son to see them play.  He also enjoys leading tours to Greece and Israel with Beth.  He believes it is his responsibility to "hear what the Spirit says to the churches" and pass those messages along to our congregation.  His heart's desire is to consistently draw out of the "storeroom" of God's word "new treasures as well as old."
