Task: to make proposals for a new facility that would be multipurpose, seat at least 1,200, be expandable, and include the additional office and classroom space we need.
Goals of the team:
Resolve to be outwardly-focused in our approach.
Meet the deadline.
Be creative and open-minded by not limiting ourselves or God.
Achieve broad and thorough representation of members in all services.
Actively seek input from ministry leaders and facilitators.
Proposals were solicited through the following means:
Growth groups.
Shepherding groups.
Individual meetings with ministry leaders.
Meetings with those involved in past building committees.
Input forms.
E-notes.
Downtown web site.
This presentation is focused on concepts and ideas dealing with the structure of the facility, rather than auxiliary concepts such as seating, equipment, accessories, etc.
Physical areas covered in this presentation include:
Non-imposing but obvious street presence. Entrance should be warm, inviting and reflect a theme of transparence before others.
Prominent welcome center centrally located to foyer entrances.
Allows for efficient traffic flow into both worship center and education facilities.
Adjacent to but separated from worship center.
Large, open areas that stress welcome and warmth, with fellowship spaces strategically placed to avoid disrupting traffic flow.
Natural lighting throughout.
Coffee/Tea Cafè located toward one end of foyer.
A minimum of two covered drop off areas that each facilitate more than one car at a time.
Hospitality room to accommodate receptions, showers, ladies ministry, with adequate storage for supplies, and access to kitchen area. If a room cannot be dedicated for this purpose, the use of partitions should be considered to portion off the foyer.

Size and design should encourage intimacy and maintain a proper feeling of worship.
Tailor interior construction for good acoustics.
Versatile lighting to accommodate different purposes.
Some natural lighting is desired.
Entrances from exterior should be not be made directly into the worship center, but rather through the foyer.

Position exits in accessible places to properly route traffic flow.

WORSHIP ADJUNCT
Small Prayer/Response rooms to accommodate those who respond during a service but desire privacy.
Larger room for small group prayers/meetings, prayer vigils. This room could also be used for small classes. Small and large prayer rooms should adjoin each other. The amount of space considered should be a reflection of our commitment to prayer.
Communion Preparation and accompanying storage area located adjacent to worship center.
Sound and video control center located at rear of worship center and out of traffic flow.
Children’s training/Nursing room - glassed and soundproof, wired for sound and video. Possibly located off foyer for the convenience of new mothers and visitors. Nursing area should allow adequate space for privacy and comfortable seating.
Plentiful storage designed to accommodate traffic flow for the purpose of efficiently and quickly setting up and taking down tables, chairs.
BATHROOMS
More bathrooms, especially for women, placed appropriately for traffic flow, especially between transitional areas such as the worship center and classrooms.
Some seating available for waiting, especially for the elderly.
Adequate ventilation.
One or more family restrooms with facilities for one adult and one child.
“Stadium-style” restrooms with entrance on one end and exit located at the other to help traffic flow.

Could be combined with communion prep. area if dedicated storage of communion supplies could be assured.
CHILDREN’S EDUCATION
Need 8 more classrooms to meet growth anticipated within the next 10 years.
Expansions should be designed with one secure entrance/exit point, and planned to facilitate a possible day care / after school program.
Smart classrooms wired for age appropriate levels.
One bathroom per 1-2 classes, especially for birth - Kindergarten.
More storage areas.
Larger, more centrally located resource room needed.
One classroom should be designed to accommodate a computer lab for tutoring, ESL classes, after school programs, etc. Lab may be used by teachers to equip in preparation.
YOUTH EDUCATION
Prayer room.
6-10 classrooms needed.
Smart classrooms and rec. areas wired for technology.
Larger Cafè and Rec. areas needed – should be designed as separate to minimize noise from conversation. Areas need to be larger to facilitate traffic flow and ease of use.
General meeting area to seat 200, but flexible so that it can be divided into one or more smaller areas.
Single youth entrance to limit access and improve safety and control.
ADULT EDUCATION
Large classroom for 200-300 for Wednesday PM services, college classes, etc. This need may be filled by a partitioned room in the worship center.
Need 8-10 additional classrooms to meet growth anticipated within the next 10 years.
Smart classrooms wired for technology.
Reading room (not the library).
Audio/video storage area for technology and education equipment, especially if facility is smart.
Warm, non-institutional lighting.
ADMINISTRATION
2 Conference rooms: One functional for 30 Elders to meet; sound-proof for confidentiality & total privacy.
Main church office close to foyer for assistance to responsively greet guests.
Smart rooms and offices wired for technology.
Staff/Ministers offices NOT adjacent to foyer for privacy and noise reduction, although still centrally located (accessible). Additional offices should be considered for future resource needs.
Intern offices: Near other administrative offices; not isolated. We suggest a large “office” area that has cubicle type areas for interns and secretarial staff. This area needs to be secure and separate from the reception area.
